Description   The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awards 15 grants to PhD students whose dissertation proposal discusses policy-relevant urban research. The program strives to gives students the resources to complete their dissertation in a feasible amount of time. Research topics can include community, housing, and urban development. Past proposals include the effect of public housing resident involvement on crime deterrence, and the evolution of comprehensive community development practices. 
Award Amount   Stipends of $25,000. 
Disciplines   Open to all fields.  
Academic Level   Working on Doctoral Dissertation.  
Citizenship   No citizenship requirements.  
Requirements   Must have satisfactorily completed all written and oral PhD requirements except the dissertation by September of when the grant begins. Applicants may be in any academic discipline that provides policy-relevant insight on research issues encompassed by HUD's mission and program commitments. Eligible students must have fully developed and approved dissertation proposals that address issues in housing and urban development and can be completed within a 2-year period.
