Hobart and William Smith Colleges, located in Geneva, New York, offers a predoctoral fellowship to research and teach about gender. The Fisher Center, which is part of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, brings together faculty, students, and experts in gender-related fields in the arts, humanities, and social and natural sciences to foster mutual understanding and social justice in contemporary society. The fellowship offers an opportunity to gain experience teaching in private liberal arts institutions while completing thesis work. Fellows will teach one course per semester related to their research area, attend Fisher Center lectures and meetings, present one colloquium, and conduct some administrative duties associated with the Visiting Scholars program.


Eligibility & Requirements

Must be pre-doctoral candidates nearing completion of the dissertation or MFA candidates who have completed their coursework and are beginning work on their thesis. One-page description of scholarship. Short statement of teaching interests. CV. 3 letters of reference. Writing sample (e.g., chapter of dissertation). For MFA candidates, a supplemental video or portfolio if relevant. An account of the relation of the project to the theme, “On the Move.” Proposals for two undergraduate courses (one for each semester) related to the theme. The Fisher Center is especially interested in candidates who would contribute to the diversity of the campus.
