Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Director of Research, Scholarship and Sponsored Programs - Boca Raton, FL.

Responsible to the Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship (ADRS) and works closely with the Director, Research Programs/Services (who oversees all budgetary responsibilities). Responsible for all programs and activities related to Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing (CoN) research program that informs the FAU Research portfolio. The director will oversee and be involved in the assistance of faculty, post-doctoral fellows, PhD/DNP students, and other affiliated principal investigators with grant research proposal development. The director will also be available to support researchers with post-award navigation through the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), IRB submission, Clinical Research Unit (CRU), and other related offices.

The goal of the position is to advance the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing (CoN) research portfolio by identifying research funding opportunities, assisting faculty and student investigators with their research proposals, and identifying new opportunities for innovation to include interprofessional collaborations that lead to successful funding with proposal determinations. The expectation is to grow the CoN research external funding portfolio that aligns with FAU's strategic plan to achieve research-intensive status R1/Tier 1 designation according to the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Research and Scholarship, the Director of Research, Scholarship, and Sponsored Programs leads and oversees strategic communication about the College of Nursing’s pre- and post-award sponsored research to internal and external customers. The Director is expected to deliver high-quality, customer-focused solutions for investigators conducting basic research and all forms of clinical inquiry from a range of funding sources including private foundations and state, local, and federal government funding agencies, interacting with CoN leadership, faculty, and staff to facilitate planning, execution, and administration for grant-related initiatives.

The Director works closely with faculty and research staff to oversee the progress of research at all stages of development and provide support as needed, including community engagement to improve research recruitment efforts. This position may include special projects related to strategic and financial planning for research funding growth and tracking and reporting of sponsored research metrics, process improvement, technology solutions, and assisting with policy creation.

Summary of Responsibilities:

· Supervise the daily operations of the College of Nursing: Office of Nursing Research, Scholarship (ONRS) and ONRS staff member(s), the Associate Director of Research, Scholarship, and Sponsored Programs.

· Responsible for all activities related to advancing proposal writing, grant development, and post-award support.

· Research and secure grant funding for the College of Nursing.

· Organize proposal sessions and mock reviews.

· Act as primary liaison with the FAU Division of Research (DoR), FAU Research Park, and community stakeholders.

· Use grant-finding search tools such as GrantForward, Grants.gov, NIH’s portal, and other sponsoring agencies to locate fundable opportunities for the College of Nursing

· Develop and implement ONRS policies and standard operating procedures

· Develop relationships with faculty, learn their research areas, and identify opportunities for collaboration, including finding novel funding opportunities and matching these with individual PIs and faculty teams.

· Plan, develop and conduct workshops and trainings and prepare online resources regarding proposal writing and grant development and other research-relevant topics for researchers, students, and postdocs.

· Convene multi-disciplinary interest groups and cross-disciplinary research initiatives.

· Plan, coordinate, and support large-scale grant project efforts in the College of Nursing and across multiple academic programs and institutions, including capture planning in preparation for such grant applications as applicable.

· Edit proposal drafts and lead the internal peer-review process.

· Write funding applications for College of Nursing initiatives

· Provide funding guidance to early career researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students.

· Co-chair the Research and Scholarship Forum (RSF) and any other committees as assigned

· Communicate in-depth knowledge of current funding agency requirements and research administration processes to stakeholders to increase proposal submissions and awards.

· Work closely with the Dean of the College of Nursing, the Associate Dean of Research and Scholarship (ADRS) in the College of Nursing, Division of Research (DoR) units, FAU Foundation, Research Deans, and other members of the FAU community to share information and provide support to faculty.

· Identify and create other activities that enhance research.

· Initiate and facilitate initiatives across colleges and key internal and external partners to increase research funding.

· Function in a key position to fulfill the College of Nursing’s strategic plan along with FAU's strategic plan to achieve research-intensive status.

· Contribute to and manage decisions regarding internal funding.

· Support formal partnerships with external research institutions and universities, particularly with a focus on team building around funding opportunities.

· Assist with sponsor site visits.

· Provide relevant research and publication-related metrics that inform internal and external reports.

· Raise the profile, visibility, and impact of the College of Nursing by raising College research strengths with external funding.

· Review and edit Biosketches, Diversity sections, Broader Impacts, and other appropriate sections for grant proposals.

· Support faculty with manuscripts, to the extent possible and as time permits.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and six (6) years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and eight (8) years of appropriate experience required.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
