Dir, Grant Accounting and Compliance

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

 

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Grants and Contract Administration or designee, the Grant Accounting and Compliance Director oversees and manages all grant accounting and compliance functions.  This position is responsible for the leadership and ongoing development of the Grant Accounting and Compliance department staffing.  Responsibilities also include the development, implementation and enforcement of policies and procedures as they relate to all post award sponsored activities.

 



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Hire, train, and retain staff.
  • Involved in the strategic planning regarding the Medical School’s grants management.
  • Works collaboratively in the development and preparation of the federal research indirect cost proposals.
  • Oversight of all billing and AR processes, procedures and internal controls for sponsored research.
  • Responsible for procedural compliance and establishing internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and/or systems that support grant accounting and compliance functions.
  • Stay current on and interpret new regulations and requirements regarding federal, state and other regulatory agency cost principles and guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and business processes to ensure compliance with federal, state and all other regulatory bodies governing grant compliance.
  • Work in conjunction with the Office of Sponsored Programs on issues and establishing interdepartmental policies and procedures related to the administration of sponsored research activity.
  • Liaison with Financial Services on financial issues and establishing interdepartmental policies and procedures
  • Responsible for overseeing the timely and accurate submission of granting agency reports.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for annual financial, Single Audit and other audits related to sponsored research
  • Responsible for the continuing education of departmental personnel with regard to regulations and requirements set forth by federal and state governments.
  • Responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of training programs related to post-award administration of grants for external department staff.
  • Continually improving and implementing systems designed to enhance the performance related to post award and compliance functions.
  • Perform other duties as required.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 7-10 years related experience, which includes 5 years in support of sponsored agreements and supervision
  • Advanced level of working knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance is required.
  • Excellent skills in use of PC, database, spreadsheet, and word processing application software.
  • Knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting systems required
