Further information

The University of Oxford Croucher Scholarships aim to provide students who are able to demonstrate academic excellence with the opportunity to pursue postgraduate research study at the University of Oxford. The scheme is jointly funded by the Croucher Foundation and the University of Oxford.

The Croucher Foundation is a private trust set up by the late Noel Croucher, one of the founders of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and a British businessman in Hong Kong for over 70 years. It is a private, independent foundation based in Hong Kong without affiliation to any organisation, and derives direct income entirely from its own investments in different parts of the world.

The Foundation specialises in promoting the standard of natural science, technology and medicine in Hong Kong through awards and grants to scientists based in and serving Hong Kong. The work of the Foundation has been conducted with the support of panels of international experts invited to assess the scientific values of individual projects

Am I eligible?

Candidates should be applying to start a new DPhil course at the University of Oxford. This should be in a subject linked to natural sciences, technology or medicine within the University's Medical Sciences Division or Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division.

Candidates should be permanent Hong Kong residents. They should also hold a undergraduate degree with first class honours (or equivalent) or a substantive postgraduate degree at masters level (or above). Deferred entry students are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

What does it cover?

100% of university and college fees, and a grant for living expenses (the rate for 2012-13 is £13,590). The Croucher Foundation will consider applications directly from the Scholarship recipients for the costs of airfares and conference attendance.

Awards are made for the full duration of a student's fee liability for the agreed course (three years for most DPhil courses). The continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based on satisfactory academic progress.

How do I apply?

You must also apply to the Croucher Foundation for this scholarship. Full details on how to apply are available from the scholarships section of the Croucher Foundation website.

The Croucher Foundation will organise interviews with shortlisted candidates in Hong Kong and the UK. It is expected that these will be in March and April 2013.

How will I know if I have been successful?

The Croucher Foundation will contact those applicants who have been selected for interview. The interviews will happen in March/April 2013.

This website will be updated once all the interviewees have been contacted. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to provide feedback on applications.
