University Of Oxford Croucher Scholarships (Uocs)
The University of Oxford Croucher Scholarships provide students who demonstrate academic excellence with the opportunity to pursue postgraduate research study at the University of Oxford. The scheme is jointly funded by the Croucher Foundation and the University of Oxford.
The Croucher Foundation is a private trust set up by the late Noel Croucher, one of the founders of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and a British businessman in Hong Kong for over 70 years. It is a private, independent foundation based in Hong Kong, without affiliation to any organisation, and derives direct income entirely from its own investments in different parts of the world.
The Foundation specialises in promoting the standard of natural science, technology and medicine in Hong Kong through awards and grants to scientists based in and serving Hong Kong. The work of the Foundation has been conducted with the support of panels of international experts invited to assess the scientific values of individual projects.
Am I eligible?
You should be applying to start a new DPhil course at the University of Oxford in a subject linked to the natural sciences, technology or medicine within the University's Medical Sciences Division or Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division . Please ensure that you meet the selection criteria for your course (see the Course Guide for more information).
You should be a permanent Hong Kong resident. You should also hold a undergraduate degree with first class Honours (or equivalent) or a substantive postgraduate degree at Master's level or above.
This scholarship is not open to candidates applying for part-time courses or to students with deferred entry.
What does it cover?
100% of university and college fees, and a grant for living costs of £13,863 per year. The Croucher Foundation will also consider applications directly from scholarship recipients for the cost of airfares and conference attendance.
Awards are made for the full duration of a student's fee liability for the agreed course. The continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based upon satisfactory academic progress.
How do I apply?
1) Apply at the same time as you apply to Oxford by selecting University of Oxford Croucher Scholarships in the Funding section of the University's graduate application form.
In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must submit your application for graduate study by the relevant January deadline for your course (10 January 2014 for Medical Sciences, Philosophy, Politics & International Relations and Computer Science; 24 January 2014 for all other subjects).
2) You must also apply to the Croucher Foundation. Full details on how to apply are available from the scholarships section of the Croucher Foundation website .
If you do not apply as detailed above by the deadline, you will not be considered for this scholarship, even if you have selected the University of Oxford Croucher Scholarships on the graduate application form.
Additional points to note when applying for this scholarship:
If, following the assessment of the January deadline applications, your department places your application on a waiting list or decides to re-evaluate it against the applications received for the next deadline (14 March 2014), then you will no longer be eligible for this scholarship.
If you are accepted onto a different course from the one you originally applied for, you should contact us as soon as you are notified of the change in order to ensure that your application for a scholarship is maintained on the new course. However, please note that such a change of course may mean that you are no longer eligible for this scholarship.
How will I know if I have been successful?
The University of Oxford Croucher scholarship has now been awarded and the successful candidate has been notified by email. If you have not heard from us by this time, then your application to this scheme has been unsuccessful. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to contact unsuccessful applicants individually or provide feedback on applications.
If you have any questions about this scholarship which are not answered above, please email us through the Ask a Question facility, selecting the Funding category.
