UCL CSC Research Student Visiting Awards, University College London (UCL)

UCL is collaborating with the China Scholarships Council (CSC) to offer funding for research visits of up to one year by Chinese students registered for PhD research at top Chinese universities. UCL will provide full fee funding from a variety of sources, with CSC covering maintenance, travel and visa costs. 

These awards are offered through the generosity of the Vinson Chu Charitable Foundation and the Simon Li Graduate Scholarship Fund.

To qualify for an award applicants must:

• be a Chinese national (mainland China) pursuing MPhil/PhD research at a recognised top Chinese university;
  
• satisfy all entry requirements, including relevant English Language requirements;
• apply formally to UCL Admission Office for admission as a Visiting Research Student;
  
• hold an official unconditional offer of admission from the UCL as a Visiting Research Student; and
  
• must be qualified and is prepared to apply for a matching scholarship from the China Scholarship Council (CSC), if offered a UCL Research Student Visiting Award.

Awards are allocated on the basis of academic excellence and research potential. Financial circumstances are not taken into account.

Candidates who do not apply for admission as a Visiting Research Student cannot be considered for funding.

The awards consist of full tuition fees (covered by UCL), while CSC provides a maintenance allowance, visa costs, and international flights to and from the UK.

Awards are tenable for a maximum of one year.

Candidates should initially contact the UCL Department they are interested in visiting. Any plans should be agreed with the UCL Department before they submit the application.

Departments will apply on behalf of the visitors by completing this application form by 1st February (should the deadline fall onto a weekend or bank holiday, the next working day applies).

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Potential candidates must ensure that their departments submit scholarship applications by the deadline irrespective of whether an unconditional offer of admission has been made from UCL Admission Office. At/after deadline the UCL Student Funding Office will check UCL systems to confirm whether the scholarship applicant holds an unconditional offer of admissions to one of the UCL Visiting Research programmes and on what date that offer was made. Scholarship applicants without an admissions offer at the time of the scholarship deadline will be excluded from the competition at this point. It is for this reason that we recommend you apply for admission as early as possible, and submit your scholarship application by the deadline. 

Applications will be considered by an academic panel chaired by the Pro-Provost China. The panel will decide UCL's nominations and awards will only be confirmed once CSC has allocated their matching scholarship.

CSC and UCL departments will be informed of the results of the selection as soon as possible.
