We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lecturer to be the academic lead for the College Postgraduate Online portfolio, providing strategic leadership for the development and provision of online courses and programmes within the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS).

The College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences is comprised of 8 Schools, each School is designed to enhance multidisciplinary approaches to tackle major national and global bioscience and biomedical challenges. MVLS College Services supports postgraduate students in the Schools by implementing best practice for training and support.

Applications are invited from candidates who hold a Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent in related discipline with an extensive and established reputation in scholarship, and significant teaching experience within a relevant MVLS subject area.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Dean of Postgraduate Teaching, the postholder will be the academic lead for the College Postgraduate Online portfolio, providing strategic leadership for the development and provision of online courses and programmes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Lead the development of the college’s postgraduate online programmes, using expertise and knowledge to support development.

2. Take a lead in the development of teaching, supervision and assessment activities across online programmes.

3. Participate in the College Technology Enhanced Learning and Teaching (TELT) committee contributing to the development of strategy within the college.

4. Provide academic leadership for the College Digital Education Unit (DEU). Work with the Head of Academic Governance and Graduate Administration to provide management and performance and development reviews for the DEU team.

5. Provide leadership and mentoring for Teaching Fellows within the Graduate School working within the online portfolio.

6. Undertake academic management and leadership roles and responsibilities to ensure high quality course/programme delivery, effective communication of information to internal and external stakeholders and the development of policy and practice across

course/programme teams (beyond subject/school level).

7. Create and develop effective networks with students, staff across the University, and external stakeholders to oversee the embedding of key University priorities such as graduate attributes, professional requirements, work-related learning, transitions support, student mobility and quality enhancement within credit bearing and non-credit bearing activities.

8. Develop a strategic approach to embedding learning technologies across the College, and work with central university teams, to support and enhance course/programme delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment within campus based, blended and online provision.

9. Lead the development of inclusive and innovative approaches to teaching, learning and assessment that recognise the needs of a diverse student cohort, taking appropriate responsibility for managing associated cultural changes and staff support and development.

10. Develop a substantial portfolio of scholarship outputs, resources and activities by leading methodologically rigorous, educationally relevant, enquiries into student learning and supporting and mentoring colleagues in their scholarship practices.

11. Regularly attend and participate in appropriate seminars and conferences to support research-led teaching and scholarship in your disciplinary area, disseminating evidence locally, nationally and internationally to enhance teaching practices within the discipline.

12. Through an established network of external stakeholders, increasingly influence public understanding and/or professional policy and practice aligned with the strategic prioritiesof the School/College/University.

13. Participa te in activities associated with programme recruitment and conversion, orientation, and collaborations as appropriate within

the School/College.

14. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.

15. Deputise for and undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Dean of Postgraduate Teaching.

16. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing The World.

Qualifications

Essential

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent in related discipline with an extensive and established reputation in scholarship, and significant teaching experience within a relevant MVLS subject area.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

C1 Proven expertise in the development, delivery and assessment of online teaching in a relevant subject area.

C2 Experience of postgraduate teaching in a relevant subject area to the College of MVLS.

C2 In depth knowledge of e-learning software and tools.

C3 Internationally recognised excellence and reputation in an MVLS subject and/or scholarship of teaching in the discipline.

C4 Ability to disseminate c onceptual and complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences to promote understanding.

C5 Academic leadership of groups/activities with substantial impact on finance and other resources.

C6 A thorough understanding of, and track record in, contributing to broader academic leadership and management at School/Service/College level.

C7 Sustained engagement with current practice and developing knowledge.

Desirable

D1 Knowledge of university academic policy and procedures.

Experience

Essential

E1 Excellent track record of scholarship to develop and devise teaching programmes, techniques and methods at postgraduate level.

E2 Proven ability to plan and lead staff and efficiently deploy resources in support of major teaching activities.

E3 Track record of student supervision and development/mentorship/coaching of early career academic colleagues in team.

Desirable

F1 Experience of teaching in an international institution or with international students.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 9, £57,696 - £64,914 per annum.

This post is full time and open ended.
