Santander: Santander is a leading global bank. Since 1996, Santander Universities has been the focus of its corporate social responsibility activities. Between 1996 and 2008, Santander has channelled 600 million Euros into sponsorship of academic, research and technological projects in support of higher education. Oxford is one of the 700 academic institutions that collaborate with Santander. As well as these Santander Graduate Awards, Santander also funds academic travel grants to Oxford graduate students.

ONE Santander Graduate Award will be made to support a full-time student for a DPhil in Spanish or Spanish American Literary or Linguistic Studies (Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages), and will last 3 years.


Am I eligible?

The Santander DPhil Scholarship Spanish Studies is made on the basis of academic excellence. Candidates should be applying to start a DPhil in Spanish or Spanish American Literary or Linguistic Studies (Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages)at Oxford in October 2012. Deferred students are not eligible.

You should be resident in one of the following countries:  


Argentina
Brazil
Chile
China
Colombia
Mexico
Peru
Portugal
Puerto Rico
Russia
Spain
Uruguay
UK
USA
Venezuela

Please note that the following have been added to the eligible countries for the Santander DPhil Scholarship – Spanish Studies:
Germany and Singapore

Applicants that are residents in non-EEA countries should be intending to return to their country of ordinary residence at completion of their studies.


What does it cover?

Value of the scholarship:

  • For Home/EU student: £18,300 p/a for three years
  • For Overseas student: £20,000 p/a for three years

How do I apply?

All eligible candidates that have applied for a DPhil in Spanish or Spanish American Literary or Linguistic Studies (Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages) that have submitted their Graduate Studies application form on the first, second or third deadline will be considered for selection.

You do not need to take any action. No supporting material is required for this scheme.


How will I know if I have been successful?

The Santander DPhil Scholarship Spanish Studies award for 2012-13 has been made. The successful candidate has accepted the award.

If you have not heard from us by the time this notice is posted, then your application to this scheme has been unsuccessful. Due to the volume of applications received, we are unable to contact unsuccessful applicants individually or provide feedback on their applications.
