At the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Institute of Semiconductors and Microsystems, together with the German Cancer Research Center site Dresden, Division “Smart Technologies for Tumor Therapy”, offers a position as

Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting as soon as possible. The position is limited until December 31, 2027. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (usually PhD). The project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant VIBEBOT.

Tasks: The aim of the project is to design, model, fabricate and test a wireless micro-sensor which uses magnetic fields for sensing in biological soft tissues.

Specific tasks for the research include:

  • Micro-/nano-structures fabrication in the cleanroom
  • Characterization of the micro-/nano-structures
  • Engineering new materials for the micro-sensors and microfluidics
  • Biomedical application of the new sensors 
  • project-related supervising of master and bachelor students.

Requirements: a university degree equivalent to a Master level in Engineering, Applied Physics or relevant subjects is required. The successful candidate should be self-motivated and possess excellent English skills, also, be open to discuss new ideas in an interdisciplinary team and be flexible to apply various experimental methods. An interest or experience in the fields of mircosystem engineering, microdevices and microfluidics, soft biomaterials characterization and modeling, wireless actuation schemes are preferred.
