Description
Based in the Department of Computer Science and funded by an external project partner, you will work on a project that involves the development of software for real-time (30Hz) computer vision methods for the estimation of the six-dimensional pose of an agile visual sensor moving in previously unseen environments as well as the implementation of fast and robust techniques for relocalisation in previously explored areas.
You will be in charge of proposing novel algorithms for real-time visual mapping and localisation in consultation with the principal investigator(s), implementing and evaluating these on a proprietary C++ computer vision library under Linux as well as liaise with the external partner to integrate the work with embedded hardware platforms or other software systems. You will also occasionally be required to be at the partner's site for integration and demonstration of the work.
In addition, you will provide progress reports of different levels of detail at weekly and other project milestone intervals and expected to produce research publications, software libraries and their related documentation.
You will be able to demonstrate experience in the development of visual 6D tracking and mapping systems in real time e.g. visual SLAM or Visual Odometry, skills in the writing of technical papers and reports as well as experience in the development of complex and extensive C/C++ libraries under Linux. You will have, or be about to complete, a PhD in Computer Vision or a related area.
Clearance by the partner before appointment may be required. Further information is available from the attached document.
