We are seeking to recruit a postdoctoral research assistant to work in a multidisciplinary research group studying the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying tolerance to opioid drugs and how they may be altered by other recreational drugs such as ethanol. Death by acute overdose is common in heroin addicts (approximately two deaths per day in the UK) and often there is evidence that more than one drug has been consumed.
The project will combine in-vitro patch clamp recording from neurones in the brain that control respiration with parallel experiments in which the changes in respiration in response to drugs is monitored in awake, freely moving animals.
If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed-term or an open-ended contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant research experience. Three years’ appropriate and relevant experience at another higher education institution would normally lead to an appointment on an open-ended contract.
