The ICT domain is now a data rich environment, in which new and diverse data streams come online with ever increasing frequency. The MARS vision is to create an augmented cognitive system that can automate the extraction of useful patterns and meaning from this vast flow of data. Data analytics has become a significant commercial market with advanced harvesting and processing of consumer and B2B data on a global scale.
The technical approach is to combine principles from Autonomic computing with state-of-the-art fuzzy representation and reasoning methods to automate the creation of a live business-driven AI system. This will be able to adapt dynamically to business and network events and react to any user-driven stimulus. The goal is a system able to be operated by non-expert users, who can extract immediate actionable knowledge from the data inferencing performed by the MARS system.
The key technical objectives are to:
• Design and prototype a self-organising autonomic inferencing engine
• Design and configure a novel fuzzy data-driven rule constructor
• Integrate the AI modules with a supporting middleware platform and web visualization module
• Develop novel data fusion algorithms to support real-time situational awareness creation
• Test and develop the resulting platform
The post will be located at BT’s Advanced Security Futures Practice in Adastral Park, Ipswich and will involve close co-operation with BT. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary research team working on the MARS project, part-funded by the Technology Strategy Board.
You have (or expect to have soon) a PhD in computer science or closely related field and have started to build up a publication record. You have a broad knowledge of computational intelligence and methods for manipulating and analysing large datasets, as well as excellent programming skills (in java or a similar language). You have excellent written and spoken communication skills and an ability to explain and share novel concepts and techniques with colleagues. You enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team and have a good degree of self-motivation.
