Role Description

Two postdoctoral positions, funded by the Wellcome Trust, are available to work with Dr Fred Antson in York Structural Biology Laboratory (YSBL), within the Department of Chemistry. The aim of the first project is to investigate the molecular mechanism of DNA translocation by molecular motors present in several bacterial viruses.

The second project will involve functional and structural studies on several tRNA-modifying enzymes, in particular human dihydrouridine synthase implicated in lung cancer.

Applicants are expected to have a PhD level qualification in biochemistry and/or structural biology, with experience in production of stable protein-nucleic acid complexes and in structural studies by X-ray crystallography.

Both posts are available from Autumn 2012 for 3 years on a full time basis, with potential to extend for a further 2 years.
