Applications are invited to work on a Medical Research Council grant: ‘Towards a translational experimental model of anxiety for pharmacological and psychological treatment development’ (MRC ref: MR/J011754/1) – awarded to Dr Matt Garner, Prof David Baldwin, Prof Thomas Lynch (Uni. Southampton) and Prof Marcus Munafo (Uni. Bristol).
The post-holder will work on a series of studies that will evaluate the effects of novel and established pharmacological and psychological treatments for anxiety on i) autonomic, subjective and neuro-cognitive response to carbon-dioxide inhalation in healthy participants (a novel experimental model of generalized anxiety in healthy individuals) and ii) neuro-cognitive function, autonomic arousal, mood and behaviour in individuals with a clinical diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder and/or major depression.
The post-holder will join our multidisciplinary research lab that spans the academic departments of Psychology and Medicine (Clinical and Experimental Sciences) and comprises PhD students, post-docs, psychiatrists and clinical psychologists. Our group uses a range of experimental methods including experimental cognitive psychology, psychopharmacology, psychophysiology and brain imaging to better understand the aetiology and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders.
Applicants must have a PhD in experimental psychology, neuroscience or a related discipline, or have submitted for viva by the time of appointment.
