Location: split site between Salisbury and Genomic Informatics Group, Duthie Building, Southampton General Hospital.
The Wessex Imprinting Group invites applications for a 36-month postdoctoral position funded by the MRC, and focusing on investigation of exome, genome, methylome and ChIP sequence data to gain insights into biological determinants of imprinting.
The appointed candidate will support both basic and clinical research into genomic imprinting in health and disease. Strong candidates will have a record of academic achievement including a background or strong interest in biological science, a relevant postgraduate degree, and evidence of independent research. Excellent programming and statistical skills are essential, as is experience of working with large-scale genetic data.
The Wessex Imprinting Group is within the University of Southampton but collocated with the Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory (WRGL) Salisbury. At the University the appointee will be based within the Genomic Informatics Group, based on the Southampton University Hospital site, and will benefit from contact with the Computational Modelling Group (www.cmg.soton.ac.uk) and use of the IRIDIS3 supercomputer. WRGL is a major NHS service laboratory. The colocalisation of the appointee will give unique opportunities to collaborate with a range of groups on both sites, performing basic science and translational research for patient benefit.
