PhD Studentship in Thermal Barrier Coatings
- Reference
- ENGKLC423
- Job Type
- Research & Teaching
- Department
- Faculty of Engineering - Division of Energy & Sustainability
Applications are invited for two PhD studentships within the Faculty of Engineering. The successful students will be involved in the development of new thermal barrier coatings (TBCs), processing and characterization of these coatings using the state-of-the-art equipment in the Energy and Sustainability Research Division. The failure mechanism, service environment simulation and life predictions of new TBCs will also be carried out.
The properties and performance of the TBCs will be compared with commercial TBCs. The results will be aimed at improvement of high temperature capability of coatings based on new materials and associated deposition processes to increase their durability, lifing and operating temperatures for high temperature engineering applications. This project provides an excellent opportunity to collaborate with a major industrial company. These PhD projects are suitable for students interested in materials, processing/manufacturing.
Students should have at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree or Masters degree in engineering, materials, materials chemistry or other relevant physical sciences with experimental skills and acceptable skills of commercial FE codes, computer programming.
Due to the nature of funding and necessary interactions with the sponsors, it is essential that the successful candidates have proficient English and Chinese (Mandarin) languages, both oral and written, and satisfactory communication skills in these languages.
Applications, with a detailed CV and the names and addresses of two academic referees, should be sent (preferably by Email) to Postgraduate Administrator, Matthew Neville. Email: matthew.neville@nottingham.ac.uk. Please quote ref. ENG/KLC/423. These studentships will remain open until filled.
