Environmental Planning: Welsh Graduate School for the Social Sciences PhD Studentship
Serious Games for Land use Net Zero
The University of Gloucestershire, Countryside and Community Research Institute, supported by the Welsh Graduate School for the Social Sciences invites applications for an ESRC-funded PhD studentship. These particular studentships, known as ‘collaborative studentships’, are fully funded and involve liaison with a non-academic organisation, often at many key stages of the research programme. They will commence October 2024. The following collaborative studentship is available:
In the Environmental Planning Pathway: Designing serious games to inform land use decisions for net zero in Wales (in collaboration with Natural Resources Wales and Welsh Government).
The Supervisory team consists of: Professor Damian Maye, Dr. Julie Urquhart and Professor Julie Ingram (Countryside and Community Research Institute, University of Gloucestershire), John Browne (adviser, Natural Resources Wales) and Caryl Williams (adviser, Welsh Government).
This PhD provides one of the first applications of serious games methodologies to farm-level decision-making for net zero. It has four aims:
- To appraise serious game methodologies for farm-level decision making for land use net zero;
- To co-design/implement with stakeholders in Wales a land use for net zero serious game;
- To evaluate the usefulness, inclusiveness and replicability of the game; and
- To inform land use for net zero policy in Wales.
Please see attached document for further information and detailed information on how to apply.
