A fully funded, four-year PhD studentship is available to work with Dr Liam Ball (University of Nottingham) as part of a collaboration with Pfizer. The successful applicant will benefit from the expertise and support of both academic and industrial supervisors and will have the opportunity to undertake a three-month placement at Pfizer.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to help develop new catalytic methods for the stereoselective synthesis of drug-like N-heterocycles. The project will provide training in organic synthesis, homogeneous catalysis, and the experimental study of reaction mechanism.

Applicants must have, or should expect to obtain, a minimum 2:1 Master’s degree (or equivalent) in chemistry or a closely related discipline. Ideally, candidates will have a strong background in organic chemistry. Practical experience of synthetic organic chemistry in a research environment would be beneficial.

The studentship will commence in October 2024 and provides a maintenance grant at the UKRI national rate, and tuition fees at the UK/home rate. Non-UK applicants will be considered if they are able to fund the overseas fees differential, or if they are awarded a suitable scholarship.

Enquiries and applications should be made to Dr Liam Ball ([email protected]) before a formal application is made via the University web site at: https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/pgstudy/how-to-apply/apply-online.aspx .
