Faculty of Engineering – Division of Materials, Mechanics and Structures – EPL Composite Solutions Ltd, Loughborough
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious engineering graduate to fast-track their career development as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Research Associate in Composite Materials Engineering. EPL Composite Solutions Ltd (EPL) is a unique company specialising in the research, development and commercialisation of innovative and disruptive composite materials technologies primarily in the infrastructure, energy and transportation markets. EPL’s business involves developing solutions for major end users and support in driving the new technology to the marketplace. The company have modern purpose built facilities, including design offices and prototype manufacturing facilities, based in Loughborough. This KTP project with the University of Nottingham (Faculty of Engineering) aims to embed advanced computational design procedures in the company’s design portfolio and to use these procedures to develop composites applications. In addition to computational design, the position will involve all aspects of design, development, testing, specification and prototyping of designs, which use composite materials to provide engineering solutions.
The successful candidate will be based at EPL and must be prepared to travel within the UK since you will also spend some time at the University of Nottingham working with the Polymer Composites Research Group in the Engineering Faculty. EPL’s commercial clients range from small private companies to large PLC’s across Europe, N. America and the Far East, therefore overseas travel is possible.

Candidates for this post should have:
• A good first degree (1st or 2.1) in Mechanical or Materials Engineering or a related discipline. MSc/PhD or equivalent in Mechanical or Materials Engineering will also be relevant.
• Relevant experience in CAD, finite element analysis or other computational skills
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and work to tight deadlines.
• Self motivation and energy
• Good project management skills.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deal with a variety of people at different levels.
Salary will be in the range of £22,500 - £25,500 per annum, depending on skills and experience. An excellent individual training package is also available. The post is available imediately will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of two years.
