Fully funded master's scholarships and Early Academic Fellowship - British Council Women in STEM Scholarship

Women in STEM Scholarship is a scholarship programme partnership between the British Council & 26 UK universities to benefit women from the Americas, South Asia, South East Asia, Egypt, Turkey, and Ukraine.

The fully funded scholarships are for women with a background in STEM, who can demonstrate their need for financial support and who wish to inspire future generations of women to pursue careers in STEM.


Benefits

One of biggest benefits of this fully funded scholarship for international students is the academic prestige. UK's universities are amongst the world’s leaders in STEM subjects.

The scholarship covers:

- Full tuition fees;

- a monthly stipend to cover living costs, including accommodation; 

- special support for mothers such as child allowance (where applicable) for scholars consistent with UK visa requirements 

- English language support and IELTS exam fee (for scholars without a valid test of English);

- return economy-class travel from home country to the UK;

- study-related costs, such as essential travel, materials, equipment, thesis printing;

- visa and insurance or NHS surcharge costs;

- and other costs (such as heavy baggage allowance).


Eligibility

Both Master Scholarships and Early Academic Fellowships are for citizens of Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam

Master Scholarships are for citizens of  Brazil, Egypt, Mexico, Peru, Turkey, Ukraine.

The following guidelines will be considered for the selection of scholars. To be eligible for these fully funded scholarships, scholars must:

- Have submitted an application to study one of the eligible programmes

- are able to take up a course of study in the UK for the academic year from September/October 2022 – 2023

- can demonstrate a need for financial support

- have an undergraduate degree that will enable them to gain access onto one of the pre-selected postgraduate courses at a UK university (for Master level) or completed all components of PhD in the last three years (for Early Academic Fellowships)

- can attain the level of English required for postgraduate study or research at a UK university 

- are active in the field with work experience or a proven interest in their subject area

- are passionate about their course of study and are willing to engage as committed British Council scholarship alumni

-Have not previously studied at degree level or higher in the UK or lived recently in the UK

- Must agree for your personal data to be shared with the British Council

- and Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of 2 years after your scholarship has ended


Master's Scholarships at University of Glasgow

University of Glasgow offers 5 fully funded scholarships for female students from Ukraine interested in pursuing master’s studies in the field of Sustainable Energy, Climate Change, Public Health and Psychological Studies. 

The eligible programmes are 

- Earth Futures: Environments, Communities, Relationships

Edinburgh Napier University offers 6 fully funded scholarships for female students from Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos.

The eligible courses are Masters of Science in following fields:

Early Academic Fellowship at University of Glasgow

University of Glasgow also  offers four fully funded placements for recent female PhD graduates (in last 3 years) at selected departments or institutes from East Asia including Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Scholars undertake a visiting research placement for 6 to 12 months at University of Glasgow  in one of the following institutes:

- Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences

- Institute of Biodiversity, Animal Health and Comparative Medicine

- Institute of Infection, Immunity, and Inflammation

- and Institute of Health and Wellbeing

Early Academic Fellowship at University of York

University of York offers four STEM fellowships for recent female PhD graduates (in last 3 years) from East Asia including Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam

Scholars undertake a visiting research placement for 6 to 12 months at University of York  in one of the following programmes:

- Health and Life Sciences

- Climate Change, Environment and Risk Reduction

- Energy Transition

- Agriculture

- and Industry 4.0/Digital Transformation

Early Career Academic Fellowship at Imperial College London

Imperial College London offers 4 fully funded placements for recent female PhD graduates (in last 3 years) at selected Imperial departments or institutes from South Asia including Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The Early Career Academic Fellowship will support a recent PhD graduate from South Asia to undertake a visiting research placement for 6 to 12 months at Imperial in one of the following departments:

- Centre for Environmental Policy

- Department of Earth Science and Engineering

- Energy Futures Lab

- and Grantham Institute - Climate Change and the Environment

Early Career Academic Fellowship The University of Edinburgh

The University of Edinburgh offers four fully funded Early Academic Fellowships for female candidates looking for post-doctoral experience in STEM related subjects who are nationals of South Asian countries.

Two fellowships are available at the School of Biological Sciences and 2 fellowships are available at the School of Engineering.

The deadline for application form submission is the 6th May 2022.
