Postdoctoral position at the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of Nanosystems

Postdoctoral Fellow in Theoretical Physics of Nanosystems at the Swiss Federal
Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland

We are seeking an experienced, motivated and highly skilled scientist to work as a
postdoctoral fellow in the group of Theoretical Physics of Nanosystems at the Institute
of Theoretical Physics of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in
Lausanne, Switzerland. The post is a one-year fixed-term, renewable appointment.
Possible starting date is October 1st, 2011 or later.

The candidate should have a very good experience in one or more of the following
areas: Solid state physics (electronic states of solids, band theory, envelope function
method, spin, phonons and electron-phonon interaction, radiation-matter interaction,
Coulomb correlation); Field-theoretical methods for modeling the dynamics of manybody
systems (density matrix, equilibrium and non-equilibrium Green's function);
Quantum optics; Theory of quantum fluids and Bose-Einstein condensation of a
weakly interacting gas. Knowledge and practice of numerical methods is required.

Research will be carried out in the framework of the National Centre of Competence
in Research Quantum Photonics (NCCR-QP). The postdoctoral fellow will take
leading role in modeling the coherent dynamics of many-body excitations in
photoexcited semiconductor nanostructures, especially in relation to quantum
correlations and their possible applications. Preferential topics include modeling the
generation of entanglement in coupled arrays of nonlinear resonators, accounting for
the decoherence of electronic excitations in semiconductor nanostructures, as well as
the Bose-Einstein condensation of excitons and polaritons. Theoretical research will
be carried out in strong synergy with experimental groups at EPFL. We offer a very
stimulating environment in one of the world’s highest rank universities, outstanding
research facilities, and a very attractive salary.
