Phd-student in population dynamics in Norway Spruce (Picea abies)

The Department of forest genetics and plant physiology is part of Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC, https://www.upsc.se ) which is a centre of excellence for experimental plant research and forest biotechnology in Northern Sweden. Biology

The employment is part of the project Genetic basis of adaptive response in conifers, which aims to understand the genetic basis of climate adaptation in conifers, and in an applied context, predict individuals that can make locally adapted populations more resistant to changing climates.

The student will analyze a large spatially nested dataset of sequenced Norway Spruce (Picea abies) from across Europe for insights into the population dynamics of managed and natural populations. 

The applicant must have a masters degree and experience in bioinformatic and population genetic analysis using reduced representation and whole genome sequence conifer data. The candidate must have very good knowledge of R and bash. Very good skills in written and spoken English is obligatory.

To qualify for third-cycle (Doctoral) courses and study programmes, you must have a second-cycle (Master’s) qualification. Alternatively, you must have conducted a minimum of four years of full-time study, of which a minimum of one year at second-cycle level.
