The Department of Business Administration at Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics is looking for a PhD student in Business Administration with a specialization in finance. Apply June 3, at the latest.

Description
The doctoral student will work at the Department of Business Administration at Umeå School of Business, Economics, and Statistics (USBE) at the Accounting and Finance section. As a Ph.D. student, you should take doctoral courses and conduct independent research project within finance. The course part of the doctoral education amounts to 90 ECTS, while the research (thesis) to 150 ECTS. As a doctoral student you are expected to contribute to the research environment through active participation in seminars, conferences and other research activities that support your research as well as the research environment. The doctoral education equals four years of full-time studies (240 ECTS). From the second year, students are expected teach and carry out other school tasks which correspond to 20% of the working hours. Eligibility and selection for doctoral education
To be eligible, the applicant should hold an advanced degree, have completed studies equivalent to at least 240 higher education credits, at least 60 of which at an advanced level, or in some other manner have acquired skills which are equivalent to this requirement. To meet the requirements for individual eligibility, an applicant must have satisfactorily undertaken courses within Business Administration equivalent to at least 90 higher education credits, including an independent work (thesis/ equiv.) worth at least 15 credits.

Selection among applicants who meet the eligibility requirements must be made with regard to their ability to successfully complete the doctoral education and is based on the following assessment criteria:

  • previous study results,
  • the quality of the submitted research idea and its relationship to the focus of the call,
  • communicative ability, both written and oral
  • methodological, analytical and critical skills,
  • independence and ability to cooperate,
  • ability to meet given deadlines,
  • experience in handling databases and quantitative methods is meritorious.
  • personal suitability.

When considering the individual suitability, we will consider in particular:

  • good skills in English.
  • good skills in Swedish.
  • ambitions with the doctoral education and work within the area in question.
  • interest related to the research and teaching within the area in question. 

How to apply

  • Cover letter with a motivation of the decision to apply for the doctoral education (1-2 pages).
  • Research draft describing the applicant’s research interests and a potential study within the area of finance (3 pages). The draft should clearly outline how the research is connected to the research/researchers at the Business administration unit and Accounting and Finance section.
  • Curriculum Vitae.
  • Certified copies of your transcript(s) and degree certificate(s).
  • Copy of thesis.
  • The names, with contact details and e-mail addresses, of at least two reference persons.
