The candidate will be integrated in a European Initial training Network (ITN) funded under the FP7-People programme within the ENTICE (Engineering Tribochemisty and Interfaces with a Focus on the Internal Combustion Engine) project (FP7-PEOPLE- 2011-ITN number 290077). Numerous training events will be conducted such as summer schools, workshops and secondments to other partners of the network.

Description

The focus of the PhD research will be to study the physics phenomena that determine interactions of material molecules with the environment and the mechanisms by which the formed tribo-layer influences friction and wear. These phenomena will be evaluated in conditions relevant to real engineering systems by using state-of-the-art research methodologies such as Atomic Force Microscopy in different nanotribological and nanomechanical modes, combined with macroscopic bench-test investigation.
