The effects of Annona muricata (graviola) on structural and functional parameters of spermatozoa in vitro

Abstract
Natural plant extracts show a range of biological effects. In addition to the positive biological effects, the side effects appearing in classical medical procedures are absent or very mild. The dissertation will deal with the analysis of biologically active substances on animal cells, the study of interactions and their effects on selected indicators in model conditions (in vitro). Individual stages will be focused on experiments clarifying the effects of selected substances on physiological indicators at different levels. The work will be focused on the determination of selected extracts on the quality of cells.
Graviola is a plant that has been used by indigenous peoples in traditional medicine since ancient times, and which is experiencing a “renaissance" today. Recently, a lot of attention has begun to be paid to it, mainly because many healing effects are attributed to it.
Scientific objectives:
(1) determining the specification of selected sperm extracts;
(2) determining the effect of different forms of extracts.
Methodological objectives: Experimental work requires in vitro cultivation of cells, determination of viability and detection of effect by florescence methods. The work will use the equipment of the Laboratory of Cellular and Subcellular Structures of the Institute of Applied Biology, FBP, SPU in Nitra and the AgroBioTech Center.
Expected benefits: The result of the work will be the determination of the specification of the effect of the selected extracts on the structural and functional indicators of spermatozoa.
Účinky Annona muricata (graviola) na štrukturálne a funkčné ukazovatele spermií in vitro
Abstrakt
Prírodné extrakty rastlín vykazujú rad biologických účinkov. Okrem pozitívnych biologických účinkov, vedľajšie účinky objavujúce sa pri klasických liečebných postupoch chýbajú alebo sú veľmi mierne. Dizertačná práca sa bude zaoberať analýzou biologicky aktívnych látok na živočíšne bunky, štúdium interakcií a ich účinky na vybrané ukazovatele v modelových podmienkach (in vitro). Jednotlivé etapy budú zamerané na experimenty objasňujúce efekty vybraných látok na fyziologické ukazovatele na rôznych úrovniach. Práca bude zameraná na determináciu vybraných extraktov na kvalitu buniek.
Graviolaje rastlina, ktorú domorodé obyvateľstvo využívalo v tradičnej medicíne už v dávnej minulosti, a ktorá dnes zažíva svoju „renesanciu“. V poslednom čase sa jej začala venovať veľká pozornosť, a to najmä z dôvodu, že sú jej pripisované mnohé liečivé účinky.
Vedecké ciele:
Metodické zámery: Experimentálne práce vyžadujú in vitro kultivácie buniek, stanovenie životaschopnosti a detekcie účinku florescenčnými metódami. V práci sa využije prístrojové vybavenie Laboratória celulárnych a subcelulárnych štruktúr Ústavu aplikovanej biológie, FBP, SPU v Nitre a centra AgroBioTech.
Očakávané prínosy: Výsledkom práce bude určenie špecifikácie účinku vybraných extraktov na štrukturálne a funkčné ukazovatele spermií.
