Abstract

Spring barley is the basic raw material for the production of malt in the Slovak Republic. Climatic changes, especially high temperatures and drought, have an impact not only on the technological quality of barley, but also on changes in the variability of cereal mycocenosis. The dissertation work will focus on the study of newly bred barley genotypes from three climatically different regions of Slovakia at the experimental stations of ÚKSÚP Bratislava, which have not yet received comprehensive attention in the current climate change. The samples will be analysed for endogenous colonisation of barley grain by microscopic fungi, followed by mycological analyses of the malt. Attention will be paid to potential mycotoxin producers and their mycotoxinogenic potential, with particular reference to the genus Penicillium. This dissertation work would build on previous research (2006-2008) where we investigated mycocenosis in wheat. Mycological studies point to the fact that climate change is reflected in changes in both the genera and species distribution of micromycetes. This may be reflected in the resulting toxicological and technological quality of barley grains. The dissertation work will provide new knowledge not only on the current genus of filamentous micromycetes representation, the most frequently occurring group of fungal contaminants, but also on the species diversity of potentially toxinogenic fungi and their mycotoxinogenic potential in newly bred genotypes of both barley and malt under the current climatic conditions in Slovakia.

Diverzita vláknitých húb v jačmeni a slade v rôznych klimatických podmienkach Slovenska
