MRC University Unit for Human Genetics: Research Fellow Molecular Biologist/Bioinformatics

A 3 year MRC-funded postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Nick Gilbert, at the MRC Human Genetics Unit, IGMM. The project will identify and investigate mechanisms affecting the folding of the mammalian chromatin and the relationship of this organisation to gene regulation and histone modifications. Prospective candidates should have done a PhD in the area of molecular biology and have proven previous experience of conducting molecular biology analyses to investigate chromatin structure and mechanisms of gene regulation, for example using chromatin immunoprecipitation and the application of structural techniques. Applicants must be innovative, have experience in developing new experimental approaches and ideally have experience in next generation sequencing techniques. Candidates should also have experience in analysing large datasets using bioinformatics skills and tools, e.g. R bioconductor and Galaxy, and have a good knowledge about higher-order chromatin structure, histone modifications and gene regulation. A first author peer-reviewed publication in a good biomedical journal is desirable.
