MSc. Scholarship - 1 VACANCY

A call for tenders is open for one Scholarship for an MSc. researcher, within the scope of the project “Implementação e monitorização do plano de captura e translocação de exemplares piscícolas”, financed by Movhera – Hidroelétricas do Norte, S.A., under the following conditions:
Scientific area: Aquatic Ecology
Admission requirements:
BSc. in Biology or related areas, and MSc. in Management and Conservation of Natural Resources, or related areas. Experience in aquatic ecology, experience in carrying out sampling in freshwater environments, preferably of fish fauna, using different methodologies. Preference should be given to candidates with a car driving license (Category B), a scuba diving course and/or a license for recreational boating (Local Patron). Candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English and Portuguese. Candidates must be physically and mentally robust enough to carry out fieldwork for continuous periods (1-2 consecutive weeks) in adverse weather conditions.
As set forth FCT Research Scholarship Regulation No. 950/2019 of December 16, 2019, article 3 and 6, candidates for “BI” (Research Grants) must comply as a rule condition for the award of the scholarship, the effective inclusion in study cycles leading to the attribution of academic degrees or in courses not leading to an academic degree. Courses that do not confer an academic degree correspond to the courses provided for in subparagraph e) of paragraph 3 of article 4 of Decree-Law No. 74/2006 of 24 March and must be developed in a higher education institution in association with at least one R&D unit, including a course plan in one or several research areas of the unit.
Work plan: Sampling fish fauna in freshwater environments using electric fishing, gillnets and traps, monitoring the behaviour of fish fauna using biotelemetry techniques (radiotelemetry, acoustic telemetry, PIT tags), carrying out monitoring actions and accompanying scientific equipment in the aquatic environment, supporting the processing of data obtained in the project and the production of the respective reports, preparing scientific articles for publication.
Applicable legislation and regulations: The granting of the Research Scholarship will be carried out upon the signing of a contract between the University of Évora and the scholarship holder, according to the version in Annex I, pursuant to the Research Scholarship Statute (Law No. 40/2004 of August 18 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28) and in accordance with the legislation and Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP in force, regulation nº950/2019 of December 16, 2019: https://files.diariodarepublica.pt/2s/2019/12/241000000/0009100105.pdf and other applicable rules.
Place of work: The work will be carried out at the University of Évora and MARE – Marine and Environmental Science Centre (FCUL campus, Lisbon), also involving fieldwork in the Douro river basin, and others where necessary according to the project's objectives, under the scientific supervision of Professor Pedro Raposo de Almeida and Dr. Carlos Manuel Alexandre, who must draw up an opinion on the final activity report of the scholarship (Annex II), according to the draft in Annex III.
Duration of the scholarship(s): The scholarship will have a duration of 12 months, starting on June of 2024. The scholarship contract may be renewed until the end of the funding project's budget allocation.
Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €1259,64, according to the table of scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf ), payments being made monthly, by check or bank transfer.
Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be as follows: curricular assessment with a value of 30% and relevant previous experience with a value of 70%. If necessary, the selection board will hold an interview with a maximum of 5 candidates who, after analysing the first components, the selection board considers as having the most appropriate profile for the nature of the tasks to be performed. In case of interview, the first assessment component will weigh 70% and the interview 30%. The jury may not award the scholarship if no candidate is found with the profile considered suitable.

Advertising/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published in an ordered list with the candidates' rankings, posted in a visible and public place in the Biology Department of the School of Science and Technology of the University of Évora, and the successful candidate will be notified by e-mail. To ensure the right of prior hearing of interested parties, the Final Classification project will be announced by any written means to all interested parties.
After communicating the provisional list of the results of the evaluation, candidates have a period of 10 working days to express their opinion in a preliminary hearing of interested parties.
Application deadline and submission of applications: The tender is open 8 to 22 of May of 2024 and the results of the selection will be published by 27 of May of 2024 .
Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending an application letter with the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, copy of Qualifications Certificates, proof of enrolment or registration in a cycle of studies leading to the award of academic degrees or a non-degree course, or alternatively a declaration of honor that you will present proof of enrolment or registration at the contractualization stage, in the event that you are selected for the research grant you are applying for.
For the purposes of application, the evidence may be replaced by a declaration of honor signed by the candidate, but the failure to demonstrate that evidence, in the contracting phase, possession of the required degree on the deadline for application or the non-presentation of proof of enrollment in the study cycle or non-degree course, for scholarships with this component, imply the cancellation of the candidate's application.
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require registration by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16 and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th.
