LIP opens a call for selection of fellows for two Research Student Fellowships (BII) in the scope of the project QML-HEP, with the reference CERN/FIS-COM/0004/2021, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), call for R&D Project Grants in all Scientific Domains (State Budget). This project is pending of approval.
Work plan:
The grants are intended to carry out scientific work within the scope of the QML-HEP project, aimed at the research and development of Quantum Machine Learning algorithms for High-Energy Physics applications. The project is to be carried out at LIP-Minho, within the context of its Competence Centre for Simulation and Big-Data, and at the University of Minho. The work will focus on exploring how recent advancements in Quantum Computing and Quantum Machine Learning can be leveraged to further the searches for New Physics at collider experiments as well as other applications, such as simulation of quantum systems. The main objective of these grants is to help the development of novel Machine Learning algorithms that run on Quantum Computers, as well as to provide systematic comparisons with current classical counterparts. The work will be done under the scientific supervision of Prof. Nuno Castro and Dr. Miguel Romão.
Legislation:
A fellowship contract will be established according to the “Regulations for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology” (https://dre.pt/application/conteudo/127238533 ) and to the Status of Scientific Research Fellow (Law nº 40/2004 de 18 de Agosto, and its successive amendments).
Duration:
The fellowships have a duration of 6 months, eventually renewable (maximum 9 months), with a foreseen starting date on February 1st, 2022.
Application:
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and a list and grades of university courses and other relevant documents, for the evaluation to [email protected] and [email protected]
