A call is opened for the selection of a Research Grant within the framework of Project 2022.02842.PTDC – STAR - STereoselective environmental processes in Antibiotics: role for Resistance, funded by national funds (PIDDAC) through FCT/MCTES.

 

Scientific Area: Microbiology

 

Admission requirements: Applicants for the research grant must, at the time of application, be enrolled or commit to enrolling in  a doctoral program in the scientific area of  Microbiology or related areas and in the topic of this grant workplan. Applicants must have higher academic qualifications in the scientific area Microbiology or related areas. The candidate should demonstrate interest in the scientific area and have an ability to develop team work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment. It is essential that the candidates have good command of the English language and research experience em Environmental Microbiology, Molecular Biology.

 

Work Plan:

  • Mapping the microbiome and antibiotic resistance or related genes in water.
  • Relate microbiological profiles to chemical contamination patterns.
  • Evaluate the effect of selected chemical substances on phenotypic characteristics or gene expression levels.

Workplace: The work will be developed at the CBQF - Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Portugal, integrated into the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia, in Porto, under the scientific supervision of Professora Doutora Celia Manaia.

 

Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship, which is expected to begin on 1st June 2024 , will have an initial duration of six months on an exclusive basis. This grant may be renewed 12 months and may not go beyond the project's end date, scheduled for February 2026.

 

Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The value of the grant corresponds to €1,259.64 in accordance with the values of research grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Table-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf ) and will be paid by bank transfer.

Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be as follows:

  • Curricular evaluation (40%);
  • Previous experience (60%);
  • The final decision, if necessary, may involve an interview with the best positioned candidates, and in this situation, the weighting will be based on curriculum evaluation (35%); ii) previous experience (50%) and selection interview (15%).

    Only candidates with a final classification equal to or greater than seventy-five points, on a scale of 0 to 100, will be selected for this position.

    Composition of the Selection Jury:

    President of the Jury: Prof. Célia Manaia; Effective Members: Prof. Olga Nunes (Faculdade de Engenharia Universidade do Porto); Dr. Rita Lado (Faculdade de Engenharia Universidade do Porto); Substitute member: Dr. Ivone Vaz-Moreira.

     

    Form of advertising/notification of results: The jury deliberates in accordance with the selection criteria adopted and disclosed. The jury meetings minutes will contain a summary of the meeting content. After completing the application of the selection criteria, the jury proceeds with the elaboration of the ordered list, with the ranking of the approved candidates. The ranking list of eligible candidates will be published on the premises of the Portuguese Catholic University, in Porto, located at Rua de Diogo Botelho, 1327, 4169-005 Porto - Portugal, with each candidate being notified of his/her position on the list ranking of candidates via email. In this email, candidate will be identified according to the reference used in the published ranking list. Ineligible applicants will be notified by email, with details of the missing eligibility elements.

     

    Complaint and appeal procedures: Candidates have a period of ten working days, after the disclosure referred to in the previous number, to give their opinion at a prior hearing.

     

    Deadline for acceptance of the scholarship: Within ten working days following notification of the grant award, the selected candidate must confirm in writing his/her availability to start the scholarship on the proposed date. Failing to do so or not having availability, the candidate placed in the next position will be called.

  • Cover letter, identifying the title and reference of the project, describe the motivation and professional objectives of the candidate.
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae (should contain all the elements to assess the admission requirements, including language knowledge and research experience).
  • Copy of the certificate(s) of qualifications conferring academic degree in the terms requested in the notice, which contain the final classifications.
  • Registration of recognition of the academic degree awarded by a foreign higher education institution, preferably with the registration of the conversion of the respective final classification to the Portuguese classification scale to guarantee eligibility in this call for application. [1]
