Offer Description

Work Plan:
The Master Researcher will carry out the tasks envisaged for the project, listed below, liaising with the project's partners, collaborating in the production of reports and other relevant documentation in the context of the development of the scheduled activities, as well as participating in events to present the project's results.
Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for carrying out the following tasks:
a) Analysing data from patient samples in order to identify clinical parameters, relevant cell populations and glycosidic markers, using various data including transcriptomic, glycomic or cytometric data.
b) Develop in vitro models to extrapolate tumour development and signalling pathways observed in patients and bearing glycoside markers.
c) Develop in vitro models to identify immunological parameters associated with glycosidic alterations in cancer.
d) Test the therapeutic efficacy of biological compounds or small molecules in disease models with altered glycosidic expression.
In addition, the candidate will be expected to work as part of a team to provide support for the following tasks:
i) Monitoring work progress and ensuring compliance with strategic planning and the Project Manual.
iii) Data sharing and interaction between the various project partners and management bodies.
iv) Preparing documents (e.g. reports) for submission to the Foundation for Science and Technology.
vi) Communication related to the project, including in liaison with collaborators.

Workplace:
The work will be carried out in the Glycoimmunology laboratory, Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, under the scientific supervision of Professor Paual Videira, the contracting organisation being NOVA.id.FCT - Associação para a Inovação e Desenvolvimento da FCT.

Fellowship duration:
The scholarship will last for 7 months, starting on May 2024. The scholarship contract may be renewed within the duration of the project.

Application deadline and form of application submission:
The competition is open from 16 to 30 of April, 2024.

Documentation to be provided when applying: Applications must be formalised by sending the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, Certificate of Qualifications* and Letter of Motivation, proof of enrollment in a doctoral program or in a course that does not lead to an academic degree at a higher education institution** (or a declaration on honor by the candidate that he or she meets the requirements to enroll in a doctoral program or in a training course).
Failure to submit any of the documents that make up the application file by the deadline will result in exclusion from the competition, without the need for a prior hearing.

* In case of foreign academic degrees, and to guarantee the application of the principle of equal treatment to applicants with national and foreign academic degrees, it is mandatory to submit the recognition of such degrees and the conversion of the respective final grade to the Portuguese grading scale.
** In the case of candidates with a master's degree who are enrolled in a course that does not confer an academic degree, the scholarship can only be awarded if the candidate does not exceed, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, including the renewals provided for in this notice, an accumulated period of two years, consecutive or interpolated, in this type of scholarship.
Documents that are of mandatory submission, for purposes of the studentship contracting: proof of enrollment in a doctoral program (PhD student); or proof of enrollment in a course that does not lead to an academic degree at a higher education institution and a declaration on honor by the candidate attesting that with the of the studentship contract he or she does not exceed a cumulative period of two years, consecutive or interpolated, including the renewals provided for in this notice, in this type of scholarship (Master's degree).

Recipients profile/category:
Mandatory requirements: Master's degree in Molecular Genetics, Biomedicine or related fields.
Requirement a)
Enrolment in an Doctoral Program, or in non-academic degree courses integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.
Requirement b)
Documents proving that you hold academic degrees and diplomas, or that they have been recognised when awarded by foreign higher education institutions, may be waived at the application stage for the support in question, being replaced by a declaration of honour by the candidate in accordance with the appropriate draft, and verification of this condition will only occur at the stage of contracting the grant.
Preferred factors:
Proficiency in a foreign language;
Have relevant and proven experience in the area of Glycobiology in the context of developing scientific research projects;
Have laboratory and research knowledge in in vitro and/or in vivo tests appropriate to the functions and activities of this competition;
Have relevant experience in data analysis and scientific communication.

Benefits

Monthly maintenance allowance amount:
The amount of the scholarship is €1,259.64, based on the table of values for scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P., and payment is made monthly by bank transfer.


Eligibility criteria

Selection criteria:
The selection methods to be used will be as follows:
a. curricular assessment (40%);
b. Professional experience in participating in European and national R&D projects and activities relevant to the position (60 per cent).
c. Quality of the interview (10%).
Firstly, a classification will be made, on a scale of 0 to 20, taking into account the weighting of selection methods a) and b). The interview will only be held for candidates whose score is higher than 10 in the first two criteria. In the case of an interview, parameter a) will be weighted at 35%, parameter b) at 55% and parameter c) at 10%.

Form of advertising/notification of results:
The evaluation results proposed by the juri will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list.
After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or an hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT's Board through the address [email protected] .
