The Centre information Sciences Technologies and Architecture of Iscte – Knowledge and Innovation: Centre for Value Creation and Technology Transfer is accepting applications for the award of (1) Research Grant(s) in the scope of R&D projects Blockchain.PT , (PRR – RE-C05-i01.02: AGENDAS/ALIANÇAS VERDES PARA A INOVAÇÃO EMPRESARIAL )  with expected end date in December 31st , 2025,   under the following conditions.

1.Scientific Area 

Humanities in the field of translation. 

2.Funding Source  

Recovery and Resilience Plan and European Union in the framework of the programme  NextGenerationEU.    

3.Admission Requirements 

Students enrolled in a higher education institution (HEI) on a bachelor degree in the field of translation . This enrolment must be active at the time the scholarship is contracted. 

Proof of enrolment must be provided by the time the contract is signed, and the candidate may attach a sworn statement that they meet the requirements for enrolment in a higher education institution (HEI) for a bachelor degree. 

4.Eligibility 

Candidates who comply with the provisions of article 2(1)(a) of the Research Fellow Statute , as amended by Decree-Law 123/2019 of 28 August, and article 6( 1) and ( 2) of the Foundation for Science and Technology's Research Fellowship Regulations , are eligible. The BI(s) awarded to undergraduate students. 

5.Work plan  

The work plan is part of the development of the activities of Work Package 2 of the Blockchain.PT Project, in Task 2.1.2 "Distributed Ledger Technologies in Health domain", Task 2.1.3 "NLP and Text Mining applications in Health domain" and Task 2.1.4 "Digital Wallets for Medical Information Storage, Control and Exchange in Healthcare" to carry out revision tasks on the texts produced in English. 

6.Applicable legislation and regulations 

Statute of Scientific Research Grant Holder, as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of August 28th; Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), Regulation No. 950/2019, of November 29th; Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th (Legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions). 

7.Workplace 

The work will be carried out at ISTAR of Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon, under the scientific supervision of Professor João Carlos Ferreira.  

8.Duration of the grant

The grant duration will be 3 months, starting in  May of 2024, and may be renewed for additional periods, up to the maximum limit of approved funding. Under no circumstances shall it exceed the limits defined in nos. 3, 4 and 5 of article 6 of Regulation no. 950/2019, of November 29th, published in Diário da República, no. 241, Series II, of December 16th (Research Grants Regulation of FCT, I.P.). 

9.Amount of monthly maintenance allowance 

The amount of the grant corresponds to a monthly maintenance allowance under the FCT grants (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atu… ), with a value of 601,12 €, and subject to any updates that may occur and are applicable. A monthly payment will be made by bank transfer to the account identified by the beneficiary.  

The fellow will benefit from personal accident insurance related to research activities.

10.Selection and evaluation criteria  

The selection methods to be used will be the following: curriculum assessment and interview.  

10.1 Applications considered admissible will be scored on a scale of 0 to 100 in each of the following evaluation criteria:   

Criterion A - Merit of the applicant:  

Sub-criterion A1 - Current 1st cycle course average;   

  Sub-criterion A2 - Previous experience aligned with the research topic;   

  Sub-criterion A3 - Participation in scientific activities aligned with the research topic;   

Criterion B - Motivation expressed through a Letter of Motivation;   

Criterion C - Interview in which topics related to the candidate's work plan, previous experience, motivation and CV will be discussed.  

For the purposes of deciding on the award of scholarships, candidates will be ranked according to the weighted average of the marks obtained in each of the four criteria, translated into the following formula:  

final ranking = (30% × A1) + (10% × A2) + (10% × A3) + (30% × B) + (10% × C) + (40% × D). 

10.2 In the event of a tie, the chair of the jury has the casting vote.   

10.3 The jury reserves the right to not award the grant if none of the candidates matches the desired profile.  

10.4 The current call might be closed until the homologation of the final ranked list of the candidates, and is valid until the end of the project.  

11.Composition of the Selection Jury

Full Member: Doctor Carlos Serrão, Associate Professor of Iscte-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa; 

Full Member: Doctor Doutor Vitor Basto Fernandes, Assistant Professor with Habilitation of Iscte-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa; 

Alternate Member: Doctor Catarina Ferreira da Silva, Associate Professor with Habilitation of Iscte-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa; 

Alternate Member: Doctor Ana Lúcia Martins. Associate Professor of Iscte-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa; 

12.Form of publication/notification of results 

The results of the evaluation shall be made public no later than 90 working days after the closing date for submission of applications and shall be notified to the applicants. The candidates are informed, in a prior hearing, under the terms established in the Code of Administrative Procedure, of the probable meaning of the final decision, and may, within 10 working days of this notification, express their opinion on this decision.  

13.Deadline for applications 

The call is open from 16h00 (Lisbon time) 20th March  to 17h00 3rd April 2024, and only applications submitted within the deadline will be admitted.  

14.Application submission 

It is mandatory to submit the applications to [email protected] with the following reference call “BlockchainPT/Istar/65” and the following documents: 

a) Document proving the country of residence, residence permit or other legally equivalent document, in the case of foreign nationals, valid at the date of the start of the scholarship. 

b) Declaration from the Higher Education Institution, specifying the course and degree in which the student is enrolled. Proof of enrolment must be provided at the time the scholarship is contracted. 

c) Letter of Motivation. 

d) Curriculum Vitae highlighting experience relevant to this competition. 

14.2 All the documents must be attached in PDF format. 

14.3 Candidates that don´t submit the documents listed from paragraph a) to e) of no. 14.1 will be excluded.
