Offer Description
  • Typology: Research Scholarship.
  • Workplan

a The aims of this exploratory project include:

  • Conduct clinical gait analysis of children with cerebral palsy before and after orthopaedic treatment using Visual 3D and a modelling platform developed at Faculdade de Motricidade Humana.
  • Assess the psychometric properties (precision, validity, and predictive ability) of the protocols described in a). Assess the validity and reliability of a markerless 3D motion capture system to conduct clinical gait analysis of children with cerebral palsy.
  • Develop subject-specific musculoskeletal (SS-MSK) models based on an EMG-informed approach and experimental estimates of musculotendon mechanical properties using real-time supersonic shear wave elastography (SSI).
  • Determine motor control strategies and muscle synergies during gait by combining results from SS-MSK models developed in c), induced acceleration analysis, and different methods of pattern recognition.
  • Determine ability of SS-MSK models from c) and d) to predict treatment effects on gait biomechanics by comparing results from the MSK simulation with those from gait analysis following treatment interventions
  • Duration: The research fellowship(s) will have the duration of almost 10 months, predictably. The maximum duration of the contract to be established between Faculdade de Motricidade Humana and the selected candidate is entirely linked to the duration of the project under which the scholarship was awarded, and may not exceed the duration of the project's funding, scheduled for the 24st march2025, except it, in case the financing entity FCT extend the duration of the project. The grant may be renewed for additional period, only in this last case also.

Workplace: The work will be developed at Laboratório de Biomecânica of Faculdade de Motricidade Humana, located in Estrada da Costa, 1499-002 Cruz Quebrada, Portugal, under the scientific supervision of Professor Doutor António Prieto Veloso.
