The Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto welcomes applications for one research initiation studentship within the scope of the project “OLIVE4FUTURE - Centenarian olive trees as a source of resilience in the face of climate change” (2022.07247.PTDC), financed by national funds through the Foundation for Science and Technology

2. Admission requirements:
To apply for the research initiation studentships, applicants must comply with the following requirements, for which documentary evidence must be provided:

a) Hold a degree in the scientific area of pharmaceutical, chemical, food or related sciences*, to be proven before the act of contracting;
b) Be enrolled in a master's or integrated master's course with a strong chemical basis, within the scientific areas in a) or in a course in one of these fields that does not award an academic degree, integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units, to be proven before the act of contracting;
c) Permanently reside in Portugal at the start date of the scholarship;
d) Fulfil all the eligibility criteria according to the article 9 of the FCT scholarship of Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. approved by Regulation No. 950/2019 and No. 643/2021, in accordance with the current stipulations.

*If the qualification was granted by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, in accordance with the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and Higher Education diplomas, awarded by foreign higher education institutions and paragraph e) of paragraph 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of 3 August, and any formalities established there must be completed by the date of contracting.


Specific Requirements

a) Good academic curricular performance in the field of the chemical sciences
b) Proven knowledge in analytical chemistry;
c) Proven knowledge in chromatography;
d) Proven scientific dissemination activities;
e) Immediate availability, to be indicated in the motivation letter.


Additional Information
Benefits

The monthly maintenance allowance is 930,98 €€, according to FCT stipend values. Payment will be made by FFUP through bank transfer. In addition, the scholarship holder will be covered by personal accident insurance.

Selection process

Selection methods:

Curricular evaluation (AC) and, if the jury deems it necessary, selection interview (E) to the first 3 candidates with the best classification in the AC.

The final classification will be obtained by the following formula, on a scale of 0 to 20 points:

0.7 x AC + 0.3x E

If there is no interview, the final classification will be the same as that obtained in the AC.

The target factors of curriculum evaluation (AC) are:
a) Academic background, particularly in the Chemical sciences (40%);
b) Proven knowledge in analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis, particularly chromatography (40%);
c) Scientific publications (10%);
d) Motivation letter (10%).

The evaluation factors of the selection interview (E), if it is to be carried out, will be:
a) Communication and verbal expression skills, in English, on topics related to the scientific area of the work plan (70%)
b) Personal characteristics necessary for teamwork (30%);

In case of withdrawal of the selected candidate, he/she will be replaced by the next one in the approved final ranking list, which for all purposes constitutes the recruitment reserve list and which will have the duration until December 2024. In the event that none of the candidates demonstrate that they have the profile indicated for carrying out the work plan, the jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship to the competition.

Workplace
The work will be carried out at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto, at the Laboratory of Bromatology and Hydrology, under the scientific supervision of Susana Isabel Pereira Casal Vicente (associate professor) and Rebeca Cruz (Junior researcher from the Associates Lab LAQV-Requimte).

Duration
The scholarship will last for
6 months, on an exclusive basis, possibly renewable, for the same or different periods, depending on the budget allocation and the extension of the project end date.
