5 Research Grants (M/F)

A call is open for the award of 5 (five) Research Grants within the scope of Programmatic Financing - UIDP/00027/2020 of the Research Unit - Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science Laboratory - LIACC - financed by national funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC).

Scientific Area: Informatics Engineering

Admission Requirements: Candidates may apply if they meet, cumulatively, the two following requirements:

Requirement 1:

- Be a student enrolled in a Master's Degree or in an Integrated Master's Degree who has already completed the 180 credits corresponding to the first six curricular semesters in the area of Informatics Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a related area, a requirement to be proven upon hiring.

AND

Requirement 2:

- Hold a bachelor's degree in Informatics Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a related field.

If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree Law No. 66/2018, of 16th August, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the time of hiring.

Work plan: The work to be carried out will be framed within the area of intelligent systems, aligned with the research topics ongoing at LIACC, and must be specified together with the supervisor (LIACC researcher).

Legislation and regulations: Law Nº. 40/2004, of 18th August, in its current wording (Statutes of Scientific Research Fellow) and Regulation of Research Grants of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, in force (https://www.fct.pt/financiamento/programas-de-financiamento/bolsas/ ) and Regulation of Research Grants of University of Porto, in force.

Place of work: The work will be developed in one of LIACC's poles, namely in the Informatics Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto or in the Computer Science Department of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, under the scientific supervision of one of LIACC's researchers.

Duration of the Fellowship and Activity Regime: The fellowship will have a duration of 4 months, starting in March 2024, on an exclusive basis eventually renewable but never exceeding the project duration.

This notice is published pending approval, by FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, of the request to extend the project for 12 months, for which FEUP will assess this circumstance at the time of awarding the scholarship, which may not occur.

If it is not possible to ensure the duration of 4 months estimated in the previous paragraph, this duration will be adjusted according to the end date of the project, and provided that the minimum duration of 3 consecutive months is guaranteed, in accordance with paragraph 3 of article 6 of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.

The eventual renewal of the scholarship will be carried out as determined in article 6 of the Research Grants Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.

Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The grant stipend amounts to 930,98€ according to the table of values of the grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the Country (https://www.fct.pt/financiamento/programas-de-financiamento/bolsas/ ). The payment will be made by bank transfer.

Methods of selection:

The Curriculum Evaluation will be based on the candidates' merit, and the following factors will be weighted (with the weights indicated) and will be evaluated by the jury on a scale of 0-10:

F1: Education: 50%

F1a) Master's area or subject of the Master's Dissertation: 50%

F1b) Final average of course (BSc): 50%

F2: Scientific Publications in Journals and Conferences indexed (ISI Web of Knowledge/SCOPUS): 10%

F3: Previous experience in research work: 30%

F3a) Experience in work related to ongoing research projects at LIACC: 70%

F3b) Other experience in research projects: 30%

F4: Letter of Motivation: 10%

The candidate's final classification will be obtained by the formula CF = 0.5*F1 + 0.1*F2 + 0.30*F3 + 0.1*F4, where F1 = 0.5*F1a + 0.5*F1b and F3= 0.7*F3a + 0.3*F3b.
