Job description:

The Institute of Systems and Robotics - University of Coimbra (ISR-UC) opens the call for applications for one (1) Research Fellowship for Masters/MEng/MSc in the scope of the R&D project with the reference UIDB/00048/2020, financed by the FCT, with the title: Experimental assessment and simulation of industrial electrical drives.

Admission: students enrolled in a master's degree or integrated master's degree in electrical and computer engineering. Candidates with academic degrees obtained abroad must present a Certificate of Recognition under applicable law.

 

Work Plan: The purpose of this grant is to develop research on industrial electrical drives, including, but not limited to,

  • experimental tests of industrial three-phase motors with and without frequency converters,
  • development and validation of simulation models of industrial three-phase motors,
  • technical and economic studies on commercially available technologies,
  • maintenance/management of laboratory equipment,
  • laboratory support to master's students under the supervision of professors Fernando J. T. E. Ferreira and Aníbal T. de Almeida, and
  • collaboration in writing technical papers for international conferences and/or journals.
  • Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The scholarship amount corresponds to € 601,12€, according to the table of scholarship values directly attributed by FCT, I.P. in the country ( https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atu… ) .

    Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will have a duration of 7 months, on an exclusive basis, under FCT's regulation of advanced training of human resources. The fellowship is eventually renewable.

    Formalization of applications: Applications must be formalized by sending an email to [email protected] , with the subject: BIC-UIDB/00048/2020-1.

    The following documentation must be attached to the email (in PDF format): (1) Curriculum Vitae (CV), (2) academic certificate with the final classification in the course and respective modules, and (3) letter of motivation.

    Workplace: The work will be developed at the facilities of the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR-Coimbra), under the scientific supervision of professors Fernando J. T. E. Ferreira e Aníbal T. de Almeida.

    Selection/criteria methods: Curriculum Evaluation (50%) and Interview (50%) to the 3 best candidates classified in the Curriculum Evaluation. In the Curriculum Evaluation, the suitability of the candidate's profile, merit, and experience to the activities/tasks proposed in the work plan will be assessed. The candidate shall have solid knowledge in the areas of electric machines, power electronics, and instrumentation and measurements. In the Interview, criteria such as motivation, commitment, creativity, and skills in oral and written English will be valued. If none of the candidates has the appropriate profile (overall assessment below 50%), the scholarship will not be awarded.

    Selection criteria:

    a) Curricular evaluation

    Criterion 1. Adequacy of the candidate's profile, merit, and experience to the activities/tasks proposed in the work plan (25%);

    Criterion 2. solid knowledge in the areas of electrical machines, power electronics, and instrumentation and measurements (25%);

    b) Interview (if any)

    Criterion 1. Motivation, commitment, and creativity to work on the project. Competence in responding orally to questions on the topics of the selection criteria (25%);

    Criterion 2. Fluency in oral and written English (25%).

    If the jury decides not to do the Interview the Curriculum evaluation counta 100%.

    Composition of the Selection Jury: Prof. A. T. de Almeida, Prof. Fernando J. T. E. Ferreira, and Prof. Pedro Moura.

    Notification of the results: The results of the evaluation will be publicized, through a list ordered by the final grade obtained, with the candidates being notified by email. After the dissemination of the results through e-mail, the candidates must consider themselves, from the outset, notified to, if they wish, express themselves in a prior hearing within a maximum period of 10 working days after that date. At the end of this period, the selected candidate must consider himself summoned to start the scholarship.
