Offer Description

Work Plan: The candidate will be actively involved in the scientific and communication activities of the project and the research group. In particular, the candidate is intended to perform the following functions: i) Development of human sample enrichment strategies; ii) Functionalization of solid supports with receptors; iii) Characterization and evaluation of the supports developed for potential biomarkers of non-communicable diseases; iv) Involvement with researchers and PhD students team; v) Communication, dissemination and exploitation activities related to the project and the laboratory; vi) Production of reports and technical and scientific documents related to the project and the laboratory.

Fellowship duration: The Scholarship will have a duration of 6 months, starting in 1st July 2024. The scholarship contract may be renewed within the duration of the project.

Application deadline and form of application submission: The call is open from 21 th may 2024 to 4 th June 2024.

Documentation to be provided when applying: Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending the following documents in a single PDF file including:

i) Motivation Letter;

ii) Detailed CV (including e-mail, address and phone number);

iii) Documents providing the academic degrees obtained and their classification;

iv) Letter(s) of reference and contact(s) (minimum of 1);

v) Updated declaration proving the candidate's professional situation, indicating the nature of the relationship, functions and academic workload on an annual average, if applicable, and may replace it with a declaration under oath, if not working any professional activity or provision of services;

vi) Declaration of honor attesting the commitment to enroll in a doctorate or a course that does not lead to an academic degree as part of the educational project of a higher education institution, if selected for the award of a scholarship and accepts the grant

Note: For academic degrees conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it is mandatory to submit the record of the recognition of the academic degree and the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese scale (process regulated by Decree-Law No. 341/2007, of 12 October), or alternatively, to obtain equivalence/recognition of academic degrees (process regulated by Decree-Law No. 283/83, of 21 June).

Documents proving this situation must be presented, at the latest, up to the stage of contracting the scholarship, and before that, they may be replaced by a declaration of honor.


Specific Requirements

Preferred factors: We are looking for a candidate with a passion for science, enthusiasm for applied research, interest and experience in the field of biosensors and artificial olfaction, and an excellent team player. Previous experience in pretreatment techniques for biological samples in the clinical context, and in the functionalisation and characterisation of solid supports, will be considered favourably. Experience of participating in projects and research teams will be considered favourably, as will a good command of the English language.

Benefits

Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The Scholarship amount corresponds to €1259.64, based on the table of scholarship values awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country (Valores do subsídio mensal de manutenção de bolsas atualizados a 1 de janeiro de 2024 (fct.pt)), with the payment made monthly by bank transfer. If the scholarship holder wishes, voluntary social insurance will be paid.

Selection process

Selection criteria: The man criteria for the first ranking g will be the scientific merit (40%), the suitability of the candidate's profile for the project (30%), motivation and relevant professional experience for the development of the project (30%). If the jury deems necessary and justified, the three best candidate(s) selected in the first ranking may be called for an interview, being then classified with the weighting 50% (first ranking) and 50% (interview ranking).

The items will be evaluated in a scale 0-20 (0 minimum, 20 maximum).

Form of advertising/notification of results: The evaluation results proposed by the juri will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list. After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or an hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT's Board through the address [email protected] .
