Offer Description

A call for tenders for one (1) research grant for a MA Student is currently open in the project: Think big on small frontier towns: Alto Alentejo and Alta Extremadura leonesa (13th - 16th centuries) (PTDC/HAR-HIS/3024/2020), financed by Portuguese national funds (FCT/MCTES – PIDDAC)

 

Duration of the grant: The scholarship will be for six (6) months, scheduled to start on Abril 1, 2024, possible to renew for three (3) months.

Entry requirements:

It is a condition of eligibility to be a registered student or to meet the necessary conditions to enrol in an integrated master's or a master's degree, aiming at the consolidation of his scientific training, through the development of research works leading to the attainment of the respective academic degree.

A degree in History is required for admission.

 

The preferential requirements are:

a) Knowledge of Palaeography, namely of sources from the 13th to the 16th century.

b) Experience in research in historical archives.

c) Enrolment in a master's degree in medieval history.

d) Experience in filling databases of historical documentation.

Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending an application letter accompanied by the following documents:

1. Curriculum Vitae;

2. BA Certificate;

3. Motivation Letter;

4. Declaration of honor that it does not exceed, with the celebration of the research grant contract in question, a cumulative period of one year in this type of grant, followed or interpolated, and has not been a beneficiary of any other direct research grant or indirectly financed by the FCT.

In the case of academic degrees obtained outside Portugal, recognition of degrees obtained in accordance with DL Nr 66/2018, 16 August, is required; or a declaration of honor that the recognition document will be submitted before the grant starting date. The submission of the recognition document before the grant contract is celebrated date is compulsory.

Benefits

Monthly maintenance allowance: The grant amount corresponds to €990,98, paid monthly and by bank transfer, according to the table of scholarships values directly attributed by FCT, I.P., in the country (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ). To this value is added a personal accident insurance, and optional voluntary social insurance at the first level.


Selection process

The selection of candidates will be based on the curricular evaluation (AC, 90%) and interview (E,10%), taking into account the Admission Requirements stipulated in the notice. Given the objectives and specific nature of the research work to be developed, the following parameters will be considered, valued on a scale from 0 (zero) to 20 (twenty).

 

The criteria for the evaluation and ranking of candidates in the AC are as follows:

a) Academic Qualifications (HA): classification of the degree and classification of subjects related to the activities to be developed (Medieval History, Palaeography and Diplomatics) attended within the scope of the degree or the curricular part of the master's degree - 50%.

b) Experience (E): research and collection of historical documentation in archives and libraries; reading and transcription of medieval sources; computer processing of historical information; filling in databases of historical documentation – 30%.

c) Preferential Factors (FP): Enrollment in a master's degree in medieval history; willingness to learn new computer skills and carry out research on the project's themes (motivation letter) – 10%.
