Description
The post-doc will be working in the Laboratory of Neurodegeneration headed by Prof. Jacek Kuznicki at the IIMCB in Warsaw. IIMCB is a modern and well-equipped institute, ranked first among the biology research institutions in Poland, with a newly established zebrafish facility. The group of Prof. Kuznicki investigates the molecular mechanisms involved in neurodegeneration and memory formation, with a special emphasis on the role of calcium homeostasis and signaling at the genomic, proteomic, and cellular levels. The successful applicant will study the proteins involved in calcium homeostasis with respect to their function in zebrafish physiology. In particular basic characterization of the PINK1 mutant/transgenic line will be performed, Ca2+ homeostasis analyzed in neurons and behavioral experiments using a double transgenic zebrafish line. The position will be funded by the EU 7FP project "Fishing for Medicines and their targets using Zebrafish models of human diseases" which includes collaboration with and research visits to the leading zebrafish group in Sheffield, UK headed by Prof. Oliver Bandmann..
