Financial Support from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund

The Quota Scholarship is provided by the Norwegian Government and administered by the State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen). One of the objectives of this programme is to help students from developing countries and Eastern European countries outside the European Union to acquire competence in research areas and in certain professions. When the student returns home, his/her loan will be repaid by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a part of the financial aid offered to these countries. Students must be from BI's partner institutions to be considered for this scholarship. A list of eligible countries is available here.

Please see here for more information on the quota scheme.

The yearly amount covered by Lånekassen is sufficient to cover parts of the tuition fee, books and living expenses for the academic year (10 months). The amount consists of a living cost allowance of NOK 8290* pr month (given for 10 months), and a tuition fee support of NOK 50 880*. The financial support is regarded as a loan, and will only be turned into a Scholarship upon return to your country of origin.

(When you return to your home country you need to apply for this, and you need to inform Lånekassen before you leave Norway that you intend to apply for a release of debt and what your address will be so that they can send you the proper information.)

If residence is taken in Norway within ten years after termination of studies, the scholarship is converted back to a loan, and must be repaid.

Students who are awarded this scholarship will be given a student residence permit in Norway, with the obligation to return home once the studies are completed according to present regulations. The scholarship will be available 4-8 weeks after the arrival to Norway.

The quota scholarships are only available for students from BI partner institutions. BI has partner institutions in the following eligible countries: Azerbaijan, Russia, Ukraine, Peru, China, India, Thailand, Vietnam and South Africa.
