About us

Molde University College - Specialized University in Logistics (HiMolde) is a leading teaching and research institution within several subject areas, with the vision “With knowledge for sustainability and innovation” reflected in all our activities.

We offer more than 40 study programmes, from one-year programmes to PhD-programmes within, for example, Health Sciences and Social Care, Informatics, Law and Social Sciences, Logistics, Sport Management, and Economics. We have about 220 employees and 3 000 students at our campuses in Molde and Kristiansund.

About the positions

Molde University College announces two PhD scholarships in circular and sustainable supply chains, attached to our PhD Logistics program. The appointment period is three years from commencement date.

We are seeking candidates with a strong background in environmental economics, environmental science, management/organisational science, political science, engineering, logistics, economics, business administration, public governance, geography, or other relevant areas.

We welcome applications with strong proposals for a doctoral project within circular and/or sustainable supply chains. The subject area allows for a wide scope of potential research angles and methodological approaches, encompassing both sustainable business solutions, circular thinking in both a business- and a public management setting. Your proposal should clearly outline tentative research problem formulations and/or research questions to be answered, relevant references to the research literature and preliminary thoughts about relevant choices of methodology and data sources.

The two scholarships will be linked to our research group “Sustainable Societies”. For more information about this research group, please visit https://www.himolde.no/forskning/grupper/berekraftige-samfunn-sustainable-societies/.

One of the positions will preferably be in our campus in Kristiansund in Norway, the other one either in Kristiansund or Molde.

About the project

The PhD scholarships are funded as part of a larger programme, defined and funded by Møre and Romsdal County Administration. The programme is called “Circular Systems for a sustainable MR region”, and it finances 6 PhD scholarships at universities and research centres in the region. Two of these scholarships are hereby announced linked to the PhD Logistics programme at Molde University College – Specialized University in Logistics.

When recruited, all 6 PhD candidates will join a network along with representatives from the county administration, the research institutions and local business- and work-life.

Qualifications

Your higher education must equate 5 years of full time studies on top of the entry requirements for first cycle studies (Bachelor’s degree) in Norway – this would normally equate to your having both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. For some countries this means that you must have more than 5 years of what is called higher education in your home country. Please confer the GSU-list for relevant information pertaining to your home country: https://www.nokut.no/en/surveys-and-databases/nokuts-country-database/GSU-list/. Your Master’s degree (or equivalent) must constitute at least one full year of studies (60 ECTS), and must contain an individual piece of student work, normally a Master’s thesis. The minimum average grade of the Master's degree should be grade B or better on the ECTS grading scale, or an equivalent average grade on other grading scales.

We will also emphasize personal qualities and English fluency. Amongst other things, you are a dedicated, cooperative and systematic scholar, able to work on your own initiative but also to make a significant contribution to a team.

You will only be awarded a scholarship position if you are admitted to the PhD Logistics programme. For further reading about this programme visit https://www.himolde.no/english/studies/programmes/phd-in-logistics/index.html.
