This is NTNU
NTNU is a broad-based university with a technical-scientific profile and a focus in professional education. The university is located in three cities with headquarters in Trondheim.
At NTNU, 9,000 employees and 43,000 students work to create knowledge for a better world.
You will find more information about working at NTNU and the application process here.
About the job
The position as a PhD Candidate involves completing doctoral education up to the doctoral degree (PhD).
We seek a candidate who can conduct fundamental pedagogical research on how various academic environments relate to artificial intelligence (AI)—subject-specific and across disciplines. What is enhanced, enabled, or hindered by using this type of technology in higher education?
The project should shed light on the intersection between emerging AI-based educational practices among teachers and students at NTNU or in higher education in general, on the one hand, and the regulations, rules, and incentives from the institutions, educational authorities, and the labor market, on the other. The study must be grounded in pedagogical theory and an understanding of higher education. Methodologically, you can choose various approaches, including interviews, observations, or document analysis.
As an applicant, you must develop a preliminary project outline for a doctoral project within the field, explaining the problem statement, relevance, theoretical, and methodological approach. The project outline will be part of the competence assessment.
During the initial three months of your employment, you will be expected to further develop your project outline and progress plan in close collaboration with your supervisors. Together, you will formulate these into the final plan for your PhD project, ensuring that you have the necessary support and guidance to succeed.
As PhD Candidate, you will work on the research project (75 % of the position) and contribute to teaching and development work at the section for university pedagogy, UNIPED (25 % of the position).
The PhD project is linked to Uniped's research group, which broadly focuses on educational processes. We are an active, interdisciplinary group with an international orientation and diversity.
Your immediate supervisor is the Head of the Department.
Duties of the position

- Teaching
- Complete a training component that includes theoretical, methodological, and thematic education at the doctoral level
- Present your research at national and international scientific conferences
- Write and defend a Ph.D. dissertation

- You must have a strong academic background from your previous studies, with an average grade from the master's program or equivalent education that is B or better according to the Norwegian grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you should have an equally strong academic background. If you have a weaker grade background, you may be considered if you can document that you are particularly suited for a Ph.D. education
- Master's students can apply, but the master's degree must be achieved and documented before starting the position and no later than October 15, 2024
- Very good oral and written proficiency in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, or English.
- You must meet the requirements for admission to the faculty's doctoral program
