Closing date: to be announced

The New Zealand France Friendship Fund offers the possibility to universities and doctoral students to apply for funding for a joint thesis scholarship for doctoral studies involving two universities and two supervisors, one each in France and New Zealand. This includes jointly taught, jointly awarded and double degree study programmes.
This kind of joint framework provides an excellent opportunity for cooperation between universities and ideally will form the basis for new and enduring academic relationships between institutions in France and New Zealand.
A written agreement must be entered into between the two universities before any funding can be allocated. All academic disciplines are eligible. It is expected that the successful applicant will spend two years studying in the other country out of a total of four years study. The value of each scholarship amounts to 20 000 euros spread over four years, with the actual disbursement depending on the timing of the visits to the other country.
This will be a reciprocal scholarship, open to both New Zealand and French students for study in the other country. Initially, one New Zealand and one French student will receive a scholarship. The New Zealand university applies in English on behalf of the New Zealand doctoral student to the French Embassy in Wellington. The French university applies in French on behalf of the French doctoral student to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris.
New Zealand students. The New Zealand France Friendship Fund welcomes applications before 31 December 2010 for scholarships to be funded from 1 July 2011. Proposals may be submitted in triplicate (there is no application form) to the following address: University and Science Attaché, Cultural Service, Embassy of France, PO Box 11-281, WELLINGTON 6142 . A decision will be made in February 2011.
French students. Details for the French students are being elaborated and will be available at a later date.
