Closing date: to be announced What are the Study Awards in Maori and Pasifika Education Research?
•These awards aim to assist emerging education researchers undertaking a Masters or PhD to make a quality contribution to the body of knowledge in Maori or Pasifika education research.
•Each year the Ministry of Education offers one Study Award in Maori Education Research and one Study Award in Pasifika Education Research, each worth $5,000 per annum.
•Successful applicants may be eligible for a further $5,000 for a subsequent year of study, subject to satisfactory progress by the award holder in her/his course of study.
•In addition there is provision for award holders to be employed by the Research Division, Ministry of Education, Wellington at the end of the first year of receipt of the award. This would be offered as an internship involving paid work during the summer holidays, but only if a mutually agreeable arrangement can be made.
Who can apply?
•Anyone who can demonstrate the following:
•a good undergraduate degree;
•are enrolled in a full-time post graduate course of study;
•their proposed study is relevant to Maori or Pasifika education policy and research;
•have an intention to make an ongoing contribution to Maori or Pasifika education research;
•a commitment to Maori or Pasifika communities;
•are permanent residents or New Zealand citizens;
•are not previous recipients;
•are not Ministry of Education employees.
•Other desirable qualities include:
•emerging in the field of Maori or Pasifika education research
•some proficiency in Maori or a Pasifika language

When do applications close?
•Applications for both awards are due by 5pm on 24 March 2012.
How are award winners selected?
•Applications are reviewed by a selection panel that shortlists candidates according to the eligibility criteria outlined above.
•Short listed candidates are invited to an interview with the selection panel at the Ministry of Education in Wellington. Travel costs associated with the interview process will be covered by the Ministry of Education.
