The Asia New Zealand Young Leaders Forum is an initiative of the Asia New Zealand Foundation (Asia:NZ) to connect New Zealand to Asia through a network of outstanding young people.
Interested in leadership, cross-cultural awareness and creating enduring relationships?
We are looking for bright, dynamic people to attend the Young Leaders Forum in Wellington in November 2010. Through the Forum, participants will gain knowledge, skills and relationships needed to form enduring networks which benefit not only themselves, but the wider interests of New Zealand and the countries of Asia.
The 2010 Young Leaders Forum will bring together 30 young people from New Zealand and Asia for a week-long programme in November. Through the Forum and its follow up activities, participants will gain the knowledge, skills and relationships needed to form enduring networks which benefit not only themselves, but the wider interests of New Zealand and the countries of Asia.
The Forum's programme will include:
"Workshops on leadership, cross-cultural communication and public speaking
"Briefings by government, academic and business leaders, Asian embassies
"Team-building activities including a Young Leaders Challenge
Participants can expect to come away with:
A deeper understanding of New Zealand and its relationships and connections with Asian partners
A range of business, government and community contacts. Improved Leadership, networking and public speaking skills
Relationships with fellow young leaders from around New Zealand and the Asian region
Access to future networking events and activities, in New Zealand and Asia through the Young Leaders Network
Who is eligible to apply?
"Current members of the Young Leaders Network
Current or former recipients of one of the following awards:
- Royal Society grant for science programmes in Asia
- Confucius Institute China Scholarships
-NZAID Study Award
- NZAID Commonwealth
- NZAID Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme
- NZDS Open
- NZDS Public
- New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarship
- New Zealand International Undergraduate Fees Scholarship
- New Zealand Postgraduate Study Abroad Award
- New Zealand Undergraduate Study Abroad Award
- AFS Language Immersion Awards
- Other grant or award supporting visit to Asia
Applicants who have not received a scholarship but can demonstrate a commitment to New Zealand-Asia relations can also apply.
Applicants holding NZAID or Ministry of Education scholarships must be citizens of one of the following countries in Asia:
Bangladesh, Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.

The forum starts on Saturday 20 November and finishes on Saturday 27 November 2010.
All applicants must be aged 20-35 years old, have leadership potential and show a commitment to furthering New Zealand-Asia relations. There are no costs associated with attending the Forum.
