Offer Description
Title of the project: “Improving laboratory models for treatment of anxiety and stress-related psychopathology.”
Project description
Anxiety and stress-related psychopathology, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), place a significant burden on society. While effective treatment exists, not all patients significantly improve and there is a great need to better understand therapeutic mechanisms that may account for this. Therefore, in this project we aim to identifying strategies that make treatments of disorders such as PTSD effective by focusing on laboratory models of exposure therapy. Many factors that are central to exposure therapy in the clinic are not sufficiently modeled in the laboratory. The PhD position is designed to bridge the gap between the clinic and the laboratory by focusing on the translation of clinical knowledge and observations into experimental laboratory settings. The aim is to leverage clinical insights to inform and drive innovative research methodologies within the laboratory, thereby enhancing our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of anxiety and stress-related psychopathology and treatment.
Responsibilities
The PhD student will contribute ideas about the design of laboratory research, recruit and test participants, carry out data handling and analyses, and write articles which will culminate in a dissertation. About 10% of the time will be spent on teaching, such as supervising BSc and MSc thesis projects.
