The Bright Sparks Program (BSP) – Malaysia

The Bright Sparks unit was established with the task of recruiting outstanding students and scholars with a deep interest in research and academic work. Under the Bright Sparks Program (BSP), bright, enthusiastic and highly motivated candidates are offered various academic and research incentives to work and further their career at the University of Malaya. Successful applicants of this program will be offered attractive incentives including opportunities to further study at postgraduate level at the University of Malaya with a fee waiver and attractive monthly allowance.

The University of Malaya (UM) has been recognized as a research university by the Malaysian government.  In pursuance to this efforts have been initiated to enhance research activities within the university.  Such efforts are imperative in order to ensure that UM is able to compete in various areas of cutting edge research and also to place itself amongst one of the best universities in the world in the near future.

Among the steps taken to this effect is the move to recruit outstanding researchers (Bright Sparks) from within UM itself and from other local and foreign institutions to serve with UM

The Bright Sparks Program has been established under the auspices of the Bright Sparks Unit (BSU) at the University of Malaya.

The BSP is open to all qualified candidates who fulfill the following criteria:

• The age of the candidate must not exceed 40 years
• A candidate who is currently pursuing a Bachelors degree or has recently completed their Bachelors degree
• A candidate who is pursuing a Masters degree or has recently completed his/her Masters degree
• A candidate who is currently pursuing a PhD or has recently completed it
• A post doctoral candidate who has been identified as an accomplished researcher.

All applications for the Bright Sparks Program must be directed to the Bright Sparks Unit.  The application form is obtainable online from www.um.edu.my/brightsparks

Submission of applications via e-mail is preferred with the BSP application form and scanned supporting documents attached.
