Offer Description
The Olias lab (www.oliaslab.org ) at the Institute of Veterinary Pathology of the University of Giessen studies the cell biology of apicomplexan parasites and employs experimental genetics combined with high-resolution microscopy, transcriptomics and biochemical approaches. We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the interaction between zoonotic Cryptosporidium parasites and host cells and to elucidate their role in causing disease in humans. The project should ideally start from 1st of April 2024.
Your tasks at a glance:
- CRISPR/Cas9-based generation and phenotypic analysis of transgenic parasite and host cell lines
- Application of state-of-the-art imaging techniques such as live-cell time-lapse and superresolution microscopy
- Participation in the generation of scientific publications
- Supervision of bachelor and master students
Your qualifications and competences:
- Completed Master ́s or equivalent university degree in biology (MSc), biochemistry (MSc), biomedicine (MSc), medicine, veterinary medicine
- Experience in cell and molecular biology methods and willingness to work with animal models
- High degree of motivation and openness to learn new techniques
- Extraordinary level of autonomy, analytical thinking and ability to work in a team
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English
