Job description:PhD Student (f/m/d) Next Generation Imaging for Real-Time Dose Verification in Proton Therapy (NOVO)

At the Institute of Radiooncology – OncoRay, scientists (f/m/d) specializing in medicine, physics, biology, and information technology collaborate to significantly enhance cancer treatment through the application of biologically-personalized and technically-optimized radiation therapy.

The Department of Medical Radiation Physics is looking for a PhD Student (f/m/d) Next Generation Imaging for Real-Time Dose Verification in Proton Therapy (NOVO). 


Your tasks

# Development and characterization of a multi-particle dose verification system for proton therapy. This includes:

# Identification of the demands for integrated electronics and detector materials
# Characterization of the NOVO detector elements
# Testing and validation of a prototype system under close-to-clinical conditions at different proton treatment sites
# Publication of results in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings
# Presentation of results at national and international conferences


Your profile

# Completed university studies (Master/Diploma) in the field of physics, engineering, comparable natural sciences or a related field
# Very good knowledge in the fields of medical, nuclear, detector and neutron physics, and the interactions of radiation and matter
# An affinity to experimental work in connection with the development of software for data analysis
# Practical experience in dealing with radiation detectors and associated electronics
# Willingness to work in a multidisciplinary and international team
# Tools for the analysis of complex listmode data (e.g. root, python)
# Knowledge in particle transport codes (Geant4 / MCNP / Fluka) and Jupyter notebooks
# Spoken and written knowledge of English
